Vars is linked to Risoul and between them they make up the Domaine de la Foret Blanche which is the largest domain in the Southern French Alps, collectively offering a whopping 170km of pistes.

The resort of Vars and Risoul are hidden gems which have yet to make it in some of the major operators brochures which means crowds are much more sparse than they are at the larger, better known resorts and it is also much more affordable. Set at 1850 metres Vars has a good snow record and boasts 300 days of sun per year, so you can top up on your tan whilst on the slopes.

For beginners the skiing could not be better than in Vars, the whole area is accessible via green and blue runs and you can ski between Risoul and Vars entirely on blue pistes. Intermediates will find the a huge choice of runs above and below the tree line very enjoyable and advanced skiers have a wide choice of black runs and some spectacular off-piste.

Vars is located 25 miles south of Briancon and is composed of four Idyllic villages, of which only Les Claux is purpose-built. With 7 mountain restaurants, 50 restaurants is the village, numerous bars and a couple of nightclubs Vars will also please those with a social appetite.
